  Turn local computer activity into an animated code landscape behind your Windows desktop icons, or choose a flowing display of bundled JavaScript snippets.

  Where does the code come from?

  Activity mode turns live local telemetry into falling text. This includes process names, CPU usage, memory usage and process counts. Activity also influences the animation.

  Source mode uses a preselected collection of JavaScript snippets included with the app, and can also react to system activity.

  The app visualises these readings; it does not extract source code from your apps or show their instructions executing.

  Features

  • Code rain behind your icons. A layered, animated wallpaper with adjustable density, speed and text size.
  • Choose your characters. Switch between original code, Japanese, Korean and other glyph sets, including a mixed mode. Some sets depend on installed fonts.
  • Custom colours and gradients. Use a single colour, create a palette of 2–12 colours, or choose a rainbow. Set the gradient direction and blend style.
  • Make the background yours. Use the included city artwork, a plain dark background or your own local image. Adjust opacity, darkness and image fit.
  • Responds to your computer. Generate falling text from live local process and resource readings, or use bundled code snippets with an animation that can react to system activity.
  • Multi-monitor options. Span one scene across your monitors or show it on a selected display.
  • Control motion and performance. Choose render quality and resolution, pause the animation, or enable a still frame with reduced motion.

  Get started

  1. Download the ZIP and extract the entire folder to a location you can write to.
  2. Open MatrixWallpaper.exe to start.

  Before you download

  • Requires Microsoft WebView2 Evergreen. .NET 8.0.31 is included.
  • Tested on Windows 10 (build 19045). Windows 11 has not been tested.
  • This release is unsigned. Bundled .NET 8 support ends on 10 November 2026.
